We are big fans of skiing in our household. Probably because it is one of the only sports we can all do together as a family of four. I am delighted to be collaborating with the Hyatt Centric hotel to talk about their hotel in La Rosière, France. We brought the children to the area of La Rosière a few winters ago and we absolutely loved it.

La Rosiere is a traditional Tarentaise village with a unique cross border feel, linked to La Thuile in Italy. The Espace San Bernardo ski area, spanning the French Italian border offers 150km of runs, with a great mix of sunny south facing slopes on the French side and snowsure north facing pistes in Italy.

There are a great range of slopes for intermediates, while more advanced skiers have the option of heli-skiing in Italy. The area itself is quiet and not too big, meaning it stands as an excellent place to start your children on the gentle slopes amongst the pine trees.

We are getting ready to make our booking this winter and if you are interested too, I have a reader offer of 10% off bookings made during the month of October for the 2018/2019 season.

There are many aspects of travel you may want to consider when you have children in tow. To be honest, most of that thinking time will go on the accommodation. You will want to ensure the place you are travelling to has plenty of child friendly support and activities so it becomes a ‘holiday’ for everyone.

When we last came to this resort, hotels in La Rosière were few and far between, which is why we were so pleased to hear about the Hyatt opening, which is all focused around family. This is the first hotel in a European ski resort for this luxury American chain, and the first Hyatt Centric in France.

The village ski resort of La Rosière is the only Franco-Italian ski area in the Northern Alps, which means when you get on the ski chairlift you are very likely to have a friendly, singing Italian man next to you (or that was my experience anyway)! La Rosière is in a perfect location and at 1850 metres, you are pretty much guaranteed good snow from early December through to the end of April.

The resort itself is just under two hours from Chambery; about two-and-a-half from Geneva. An easy and manageable transfer from the airport to the resort with kids. With excellent access to the Eucherts chair lift, the hotel is also only approximately 100m from centre of the village which has a local chemist and shops.

There is good access to Ski School for children and adults here, available from either the French ski school (ESF) or Evolutions2. We have used both these ski schools in the past and found them to be excellent for building the children’s confidence and taking them fun snow adventures.

I was impressed by what Hyatt has to offer, so I wanted to run through their facilities with you to consider. Firstly, the family friendly hotel styling is a traditional mountain style with a modern twist. The hotel is contemporary and chic with a fun elephant theme running throughout the hotel, drawing on the story of the great military commander, Hannibal, who, with his elephants, passed through La Rosière in 218BC on his way to Italy.

When it comes to food, there are two restaurants. La Tavola Trattoria, complete with a pizza oven, which is great for kids. The other is the French-style H40 Brasserie (named after Hannibal’s 40 elephants), serving breakfast, à la carte lunch and dinner (a highlight is the slow-baked shoulder of lamb).

Inside this 4* Hyatt Centric hotel there are 69 rooms, several of which are well designed family suites with bunk beds for the children. The rooms are spacious with fabulous views across the Tarentaise valley and the sunsets here are spectacular. Sound good so far?

Hotel facilities include a ski-hire shop, ski locker rooms, fitness centre, a spa, an indoor swimming pool, hot tubs, sauna and yoga area. And, the important bit – a children’s play room. Hurrah! Hyatt Centric seem to have thought of everything.
